Hi there,

I've been dealing with medical tourism for 5 years now and would like to push my limits a little bit in this area. Therefore, I would appreciate if you could specify the reasons of why you'd rather not travel abroad for treatment? Your fears, doubts, stereotypes?

Thanks so much in advance.

Any particular type of treatment?
That indicates that you have no confidence in our Doctors / Nurses / NHS, we live and learn.

Joint replacement, cancer care, dentistry, IVF, plastic surgery, neurology. Basically, anything you can name.
I certainly would not travel abroad for treatment, unless it was "life saving" and not available here. The standard of nursing and medical care is as good as anywhere else in the world, so what would be the advantage in seeking healthcare abroad?

I Live in Spain.
Sqad, Are you saying that the NHS is the best in the world, or that Spain has the best in the world?
//I've been dealing with medical tourism for 5 years now//
What do you mean by that?
danny......I am saying that the health care in Spain is "as good as" anywhere else in the world.
Sounds like an impromptu survey by a company to me.
I am also puzzled - in what way have you 'dealt' in Health Tourism for 5 years??

^ Medical tourism , sorry.
Sqad. Maybe I should join you in Spain:-)
Some of the responses here clarify why 'scams' still work.
LOL^^^ Mrs sqad would be worried..........

Great, do you have any advice for us then?
Medical tourism? Wasn't there a movie in which a miniature submarine with miniature people coursed through the blood stream of the human body?...Now that's medical tourism.
Now, this here thread being all medical like, I should have said circulatory system.

Spain is indeed a great place to undergo treatment. Especially, for those dealing with infertility issues, beauty procedures, and oncology.

Some of the reasons that make patients seek medical help overseas mostly include financial issues (3,000 Euro for an IVF package, 9,000 for a knee replacement surgery, etc.), long wait times (while most overseas hospitals offer admissions on the same day especially for heart patients) and unavailability of some procedures (say, HIV sperm cleansing).

I'm not saying NHS or any other system/destination is bad. I'm just trying to figure out why some people still prefer to stay home and overpay. It just doesn't sound reasonable to me.

PS. By indicating "I've been dealing with medical tourism for 5 years now", I'm specifying my professional area which is bridging patients and physicians worldwide. I'm not including any ads here or anything like that. Instead, I'm trying to clarify for myself things that I encounter every now and then at work.
The vast majority of people on here live in the UK and use the NHS free of charge- we are not health tourists
And the reason we stay at home is because the treatnment is 'free' and even if it is free overseas somewhere it's far more convenient to do it locally in the UK than travel overseas

In this partictular case, it's totally understandable. Thanks for throwing some light on it anyways. Will search further.
