Does anyone know what it means when the flame of a gas fire burns orange instead of blue.I'm sure i knew at one point but can't remember.Thanks

as far as i know, a gas flame burns blue when i has lots of oxygen, orange when its either normal/short supply.

Remember the old bunsen burner at school, open the valve at the bottom more oxygen = blue flame = hot, close it = yellow flame = not so hot. Looks like the air intake is restricted somehow.

Also, the yellow flame is more likely to produce higher levels of carbon monoxide.  Make sure you have good ventilation and have it checked.

It could also be some soot/dirt burning at the tip of the jet - best to get it checked anyway
