Hi, I wonder if anyone knows if it is true, that when you become 60 you no longer need to pay bedroom tax? My husband and I are on a joint tenancy. He will turn 60 in a few months but I will not be 60 for another year. Will we still be able to not pay the tax? Thanks in advance.

The 'bedroom tax' rules continue to apply until one of you reaches State Pension Age:

People of state pension age are exempt from bedroom tax. If you are a couple and only one of you has reached state pension age, the same rule applies.

If you reach state pension age before your husband, that will be enough to stop paying it.
There is no such thing as bedroom tax.
Ah I think it must be that 'intimacy tax' you are thinking of. If you get too old to use the bedroom for anything other than sleeping, you're allowed a tax reduction. Unfortunately I have to pay a surcharge :-(
your husband will not reach state pension age for another six years and you for another seven years. Till then, the bedroom tax will apply
Are you in receipt of housing benefit at the moment ?

The bedroom tax is really a drop in your entitlement to housing benefit, not a tax in the exact sense of he word.

So if you are not receiving housing benefit at the moment, than you can't have less of it !
