Time Loop

I am writing a short story and this is my first one. I need help with fresh crreative minds. The story has time loop. The protagonist is living the same day again and again like the movie groundhog day. The time loop happens from the beginning of the story and he is saving his family from a danger by solving a crime. But I can t figure out a reason why time loop happens here. So my question is: what are the possiblities to create time loop in a story.

Note: Once the protagonist understands the reason why time loop happens for him, his time loop ends.

Maybe during the crime he got badly injured and is in a coma only thinking he is experiencing a time loop, but trying to figure out what happened. When he realises what really happened he then also realises he's also out cold and starts to come to.

He's a character in a video game and the real player of the game has been restarting a level over and over again because he keeps getting stuck. Once the game has been completed there would be an ending of sorts, maybe a new game being played or the games console being turned off. Any thought processes and decisions made by the character could reflect what is going on in the game player's mind.

I think most 'reasonable' reasons for time loop have been covered extensively by Hollywood and writers already so a new angle is difficult without seeming to rip one of them off.

OG has a good idea (Life on Mars, Ashes to Ashes).

What about just a simple - Science has progressed and we have discovered time travel but only registered organisations can use it. He got caught up in a case that was not suppose to involve him or his family and time is trying to put it right.

evil protagonist has put him in the time loop to prevent him solving the crime? He is a character in a novel and the author keeps rewriting him? (ooo I like that one)

Maybe he could be consciously creating the timeloop himself in order to solve the crime, or his family are putting him in the timeloop somehow so they can be rescued?
