I have a set of rechargable batteries. they do not last as long as purchesed batteries. However they seem to be lasting a shorter time.
How do I know when they are beyond redemption and must replace them?

Many rechargeable batteries develop a memory, so if you only run them half way down before recharging them on a regular basis, they will only run down to that mark and no further. Try putting them in a torch and leaving it on overnight to totally discharge them, before recharging them again. If they've got too bad, you will probably have to replace them.
