telescopic desklights????

Hi all. can anyone tell me how those telescopic desklights get the wire from the base unit to the bulb?????I know ..I know how sad am i but it's so intrigueing!!!! take a look at your own and you will be astounded ha ha ha please someone put me out my misery xxxxxxxx

In the low voltage type the current astualy passes up the chrome elescopic arms, try touching something metal accross the two arms and the light will go out......You wont get a shock because it is only 12 volts.but be warned this may blow the fuse inthe transformer
