Keyless Car

I have a car which I can open by just standing at the side of it and pressing the door handle providing the key is close to the car, in my handbag or pocket. I bought a pouch that would protect the key when it was in the house if any car thieves tried waving whatever they wave to detect the signal from outside the house. Yesterday I walked up to the car and the key was still in the pouch, in my pocket, yet I was able to open the door.
Does this mean that the pouch isn't fit for purpose?
Hope I've explained it enough!

Those Faraday bags seem to have two compartments....did you put the key in the right one (so it's completely surrounded by the metallized fabric) and close the top properly. Although I have "keyless entry and start", I haven't concerned myself with bags/boxes etc because the car's in a locked garage at home.

Looks like it.
I had one of those pouches up until a month ago.
It's called a faraday bag.
My key wouldn’t work when in the bag.
I always unlock the passenger door first and put my handbag on the seat, then walk round to the drivers side.
Only I was a complete half wit one day, and after unlocking the car, without thinking, I put the key back in the bag, so as I walked around the car it locked.
Car key, house key, phone and bank cards all locked in!

I ditched the bag after that.

oh, and the latest keys have a motion-sensor built-in...if the key hasn't moved for a short time, the radio signal is cancelled until the key is moved again, so no theft possible.

Thank you all very much. I had got it in the wrong part of the pouch.
I always turn of the keyless go option, total waste of time serves no purpose whatsoever, facilitates crime, monumentally silly idea. Check the manual and disable this feature, that's the best way.
^^^you've said this before and, of course, are entitled to your opinion.
Others, like me, said that they find the feature very useful.
"Disable this feature"....you'll find it possible on some cars, but not on others.
Better advice is to ask a franchised dealer to upgrade the keys to the latest "motion-sensor" technology.
"Does this mean that the pouch isn't fit for purpose? "

Don't just keep it in the pouch, also keep it far away from the letter box.
so pressing a button to lock/unlock is to difficult gingejbee?
No, not TOO difficult...just not as convenient as keeping the key in my pocket....
I agree with TTT but each to their own. My parents enjoy their key-less feature but i personally do not like the idea.

More opportunity to loose the key and more opportunity for someone to steal the car.

However it is more efficient for people such as young mums, carers, people with a disability.
friend has similar problem, but if his phone is taken more than 10 metres from home without code it shuts down
TonyV the issue is people can mimic the code, they use a machine to save it. once they receive the code and save it, then can copy it, then emit it. Meaning they basically have the key.
Spath //More opportunity to loose the key//

How? My car key stays in a zipped pocket, so no chance of pulling it out accidentally with my hankie etc.

Well for me (i don't usually have zipped pockets) the more i look at something the less likely i'm going to lose it. Be it a lighter or a key.
