Skateboards are made out of 7-ply maple(usually) wood.

I was thinking.. much like getting a new cricket bat do you need to wear in a skateboard?

I've seen brand new skateboards being delaminated really easily and old skateboards being thrown into the corner of a wall or bench, coming out with a small mark

I'm sure there must be other wooden items that need wearing in.. Bow and arrows maybe?

My bow got a linseed oil rub every so often and resin on the string.
Never wore them in. These were old willow wood. No idea what they do with laminated carbon fibre or the previous steel bows
Spath, are you an ‘adult’ skate boarder? I haven’t seen anyone older than 13-14 skate boarding here
Whilst I don't know, I'd doubt it, unless you were hitting a ball with it. The board stays a board, the wheels are more likely to have bearings deteriorate than bed in. Maybe you need to get accustomed to it and it's qualities though.
I've just googled 'skateboard care' and clicked on a few links. I can find nothing at all about 'wearing them in' although I can find plenty of advice such as "be careful when tightening your trucks". That's got to be a euphemism for something, surely?
