you should have an icon on your tool bar that runs along the top with a picture of lines and an up and down arrow on it. If you run your cursor over it, it will say 'line and paragraph spacing'. Click on that and select the spacing you want.

I'd say as above but highlight the text, right click and select paragraph and then have both before and after set at 0 and on the right of that line spacing set to single - that's in proper MS Word though, irrelevant of the Windows version.
its the whole laptop, i haven't had a new one for 13 years. so this is a completely different kettle of fish. its fun in some way but some simple tasks take an age.
