I wanted to use a normal 3pin plug in timer to control off/on on my smart tv. Setting the pins to various times to control off /on When the timer reaches the on position power still isn’t supplied. Power is supplied but tv doesn’t come on, it stays on standby. Ive checked the plug in using my kettle, it works fine. I’ve done a search but can’t find any answers. Thanks.

All the TVs in my house (including 2 smart ones) will only come on in standby mode when switched on from the wall plug - they need the remote to actually activate them.
You are turning it from off to standby. Possibly normal action for the TV ? Try it without your timer in the circuit to find out.
How do you turn off the TV when you've finished watching? ie, do you use the remote or do you leave it on and let the timer turn it off? Our previous TV came on in the state it was when the mains was turned off; in other words, if we turned it to standby and then mains off it came on in standby mode when the power returned. If we just turned off the mains it came back fully on when the power was turned on again.
There could be an easier way. Have you checked your tv settings? There may be an auto on / off setting so that your tv will turn on and off at the times you want. My tv can do this.
I must say I'm curious as to why someone would want a TV to come on when there is no-one in the room to push the button on the remote control.
It might be in the bedroom and it is used as an alarm; could be for security to come on whilst they are out.
A time clock won’t switch on a TV. It will only put it into standby mode.
OK - I date back to when TVs had very high voltages and classed as too dangerous to leave unattended, hence we use radios and lights.
You can get a light that mimics a tv being on.
yes, my TV comes back on in standby when its switched back on at the mains.
