I have a number stored in my phone but when they call me it shows "private number" and goes direct to voicemail, how can I change this ?

I don't think you can because the caller is using 'number withheld' when he (or she) calls you. Your phone cannot read the number.

Agree it's the caller making it a private number and you can't change that but it shouldn't go straight to voicemail, it should still ring, that must be a setting on your phone for that number.
I have just called my mobile from my landline dialling 141 before the number to with hold it. It shows as 'private number' on my mobile despite the landline number being stored on my phone.

It is actually a Solicitors office so yes, they may be withholding.
