Hi. I have a 10ft circular swimming pool which I am am about to put up. Last year we had the 2.8kw heater plugged into a mains socket, but this year we're moving the pool farther from the house. We're getting an electrician to install an outside socket but he can't do it for a couple weeks. Is there any way I use some kind of insulated extension cable so I can plug the heater in?

All extension cables are insulated, Minky. I guess you mean "waterproof"?

Anyway, waterproof ones are available if you need one.
Since you've had this plugged in before, I assume you've made sure you have RCD Protection.
The house system may or may not have RCD protected circuits. If not, then include a plug-in RCD in the set-up.

Also, make sure the extension is at least 1.5mm cable. They mostly are, but I have seen very cheap ones with only 1.00mm cable.
... about the cable, 1.5mm means that it can handle an 11 Amp load, which is what your heater draws.
Look for one with a 15A capacity at least.

Thank you so much for answering. This is what I'm looking at

https://www.industrialextensionleads.co.uk/heavy-duty-rcd-plug-to-ip66-outdoor-socket-kit-12231-p.asp

Its rated to 3kw and has RCD protection.
No. See Builder's advice re 'at least' 15A capacity. That one is 13A.
That looks good Minky :o)
Whaaaat! ;-)
Ahhhhhhh....... Zac's right.
I only said 15A to give a bit of "spare" though. Stupid really since they all have 13A fuses.

Sorry for the confusion. Your choice will do fine.
Me again ..........
Just thought I should mention that, if the heater's going to be on for a while, make sure you fully extend the extension cable.
If you leave any of it coiled up, it will get rather warm :o(
Builder; good advice about unrolling the cable!
