Getting An Electric Bike Into Car

Hello, I am thinking of buying an e bike, mostly for local use. I have been told they are very heavy and I know I wouldn't be able to lift it in my car. Does anyone have experience of using an e bike? And any recommendations how to get it into a car.

There is one right next to me at the moment. The owner paid £10k for it. It is a fairly easy lift. To look at it you can see nothing bulky to indicate it has batteries in it. The only give away is the bottom bracket which looks like a gearbox.

Originally they had the motor in the front wheel hub which is convenient but not the best for grip, now most have the motor in the rear wheel hub or in the pedal crank. With a motor in the wheel changing/repairing a flat tyre will be more difficult. The ones with the motor in the pedal crank can suffer failure of the bearing with heavy use due to the uneven forces applied through the pedals.

My son has his own business making anything from carbon. £10k gets you one deck chair !

My mums bike is used as a normal bike. She only kicks in the battery on steep hills.

Serious thought needs to given as indicated before going big on one of these,all depends on what you want. Leisure or more serious.

If your bike is for local use .. why do you want to put it in the car ?
Many people who have bikes to transport by car fit a rack over the rear window. Then it's just a case of lifting it onto the rack.

That's why I got a folding one cos I don't want to be messing about with a rack & if it obscures the number plate & lights you also need a supplementary tailboard.
