Heat gives off light in the infra-red spectrum (range of frequencies). An infra-red sensitive camera picks up these frequencies and converts them to corresponding frequencies in the visible spectrum so that we can see them. High heat is usually shown as white/bright yellow going right the way through red, green, blue and to dark violet/black for little or no heat.
Skids: heat doesn't give off light in the infra-red spectrum, heat _is_ light in the infra-red spectrum.
Heat is the transfer of energy by infra-red radiation.
