If a company in Ireland have security acces doors in there building that require swipe cards to gain access is the company allowed to charge there staff for the access cards that grant them accesss into the building?

To charge for a replacement in the event of loss or damage, yes, but to charge for access to your place of work seems ludicrous. Why not just refuse to buy the card, and then when they sack you for not turning up at work, sue for unfair dismissal since they did not allow you access to the premises?

Try bending the ear of a friendly union rep. To me it sounds totally wrong.

I would think that if they were very unreasonable they could charge a deposit on the cards, refundable when returned.

Lisaj is right, I have controlled entry in my work and we were given the cards for nothing but if we lose them we have to pay �10.00!
