Yes I have had oil fired with my last 3 houses. What do you need to know?

Barmaid beed to know if you have a hot water tank like we do for our gas system so you can heat up the water without having the radiators on especially in the summer
Yes, we have two settings. At present the boiler is only on for hot water so the rads do not come on. We also have an immersion heater for those times when yours truly has forgotten to order the oil.
Just make sure you don’t run out of oil. Have your boiler serviced annually.

Wonderfull thank you all this does help alot.
If you're considering buying a house with an oil tank, it's worth considering how visible that tank is from the road and how easily someone could access it (with a tanker) without being seen. Reports like this one are constantly appearing on the website of our local rag:

Buenchico folk will nick anything and yes we will have to check security out aswell, thanks
Old metal oil tanks can leak, and need replacing. Big hassle.

I used to have oil fired heating, and would avoid it if I were buying a house again.
Jesmond............ it depends.
If it's an oil-fired combi boiler, then there won't be an immersion cylinder.

Found out that this house does have an immersion heater so will have a look in it, thanks all
