faulty dvd player

i have a fairly new dvd player but it has stopped playing the dvds. the disk goes in and the screen says loading but i dont get any further than that. it does the same with cds as well. could it be a dirty lens or something more sinister?

Could be a dirty lens. Use a proprietry lens cleaner. It is a cd/dvd with small brushes that clean the lens.
I had that problem, and in the end, got so angry with it, I punched it and shoved it in the garage.
Could be dirt on the Laser and it needs to be cleaned, you could try yourself if you get a disk like the new Scotch Laser Cleaner @ �3.99 but most times they need a service engineer to do the job proper which can cost more than the DVD player
