Deleting Email On Gmail

Could someone please put me out of my misery and tell me, in layman's / dummy language how to delete an email address from Gmail. The one I used originally is now obsolete but I can't seem to change it. Sincere thanks for any assistance.

you can't edit..you need to create a new one! with a new password

can't delete either ..I must have a good few old ones floating around that have been abandoned.. remember to update any on line sites you shop at..etc

You can delete Gmail accounts.
