Subtitles on TV

I have noticed in the TV listing that some programmes have subtitles. Are these subtitles viewable on any TV and if so how do you access them?

sometimes its just telling you that its a foreign language film, or has some foreign language parts

subtitles are available on most channels through teletext 888

All BBC programmes will have subtitles available within the next 2 years. Any TV with teletext can access them. See here for more details:
