DVD Player

We have had our dvd player a couple of months and it now says disc error when we put a dvd on. It plays MP3's. This is the main dvd player through TV. Anyone have any ideas please?

Mine does this when i try and put copied discs in it just wont take em which is a right pain. Dont know if your using these have you tried opening and closing the player a good few times as this sometimes helps, another trick is give it a good blow as there might be dust inside the player.

If it is a copied disc if you go to dvdreviewer.co.uk and put in the make, you might find a code to help. However even some players that play back up discs will only play a certain type, mine will play pink but not blue (as in the sheen on the plain silver side) Also if possible give it a hoover, we fix our PS2 regularly with the hoover, not sure you can access the bits in a dvd. Under a combination of EU law and a UK court ruling, electrical equipment should be expected to function properly for at least 6 years from purchase. Furthermore, during the first 6 months after purchase, there is an automatic legal assumption that any fault which develops is due to an 'inherent fault' (which means isn't wasn't fit for the purpose for which it was sold).. Don't bother trying to fix it. Just return it to the retailer who sold it to you.

The retailer has the right to determine whether he will provide a repair or a replacement. In practice (particularly if the item was bought from somewhere like one of the big supermarket firms), you'll almost certainly be given a replacement. It doesn't even matter if you've lost the receipt. Your rights to redress are unaffected.

I repeat: Don't bother trying to fix it; just take it back!

was going to say the same as Chris. We had the same prob as you and took ours back to the shop, they said apparently the laser heads in them have quite a high failure rate during the first year but if they will go for a year they tend to be okay.

Thanks for all the replies. We cleaned it last night and nothing happend. I have tried it again today and it seems to be working ok. Will see how it goes, but if it packs up again in the next few weeks then I will take the advice and take it back to the store. By the way it was copies and originals that would not play. We never had all this problem with videos.
