I have never learnt to play chess; I have always seen it as one of those things like being right or left handed - you either do or don't.
I spent this afternoon being taught the game by my 7 year old and it really is not that taxing. However we do need some help with a simplified version of the basics of the game as I know we are not playing 'full throttle' . Anyone got any simple tips? Help in remembering what the pieces can do?

You can get books and other aids for the beginner fairly cheaply, if you haven't got a book, then write down the moves of each piece, and keep it to hand.
If you go to www.download.com you can get a free Chess game for beginners there.
