Has the postman stolen my letter?

Last month I bought an Isle of Wight festival ticket online. The ticket was dispatched registered post, and I thought nothing more of it until all of my friends received theirs and I didn't. I waited 2 weeks before calling the ticket sellers, who gave me a tracking code which I used on the Royal Mail site. It gave me the exact date they tried to deliver the letter, but I never received a red "while you were out" card. I went to my local sorting office (in Brighton) who said they couldn't find it, nor could they trace it but said "it was here, but isn't anymore". I tried the ticket sellers again who said they had received nothing back. No-one seems to accept responsibility and now the festival has sold out. I'm truly gutted as I can't afford to buy another one on eBay etc. What can I do to get to the bottom of this? I've lodged a complaint with Royal Mail, but had no reply so far...

i believe the seller has a contract with the post office. they sent the tickets but because you didn't recieve them they are still responsible to supply you with the tickets.ask them to send you a fresh ticket because you haven't recieved it yet.

they should claim for the loss to from the p.o.

if the ticket was bought using a credit card they are jointly responsible so you may be able to claim from them. also if you have any other losses they can possibly be claimed for as well.

After 14 days of waiting you can fill out a claims form (available from the post office) which you can fill out and send to Royal Mail who will try and sort out this missing post.

Also it is the sellers responsibility to give you your money back for missing mail. By sending the post the seller has entered a contract with Royal Mail. They should give you your money back and obtain a refund from Royal Mail.

If you happen to see highlights of this festival on the TV and there is your local postman present then you know he nabbed your ticket.

If they sent it recorded delivery - someone must have signed for it. Can they get a copy of that, date and timed too - then could you use that to prove it wasn't you? Ie. I work tuesdays so couldn't have signed for it and no one else was home?

Other than that, make as much fuss as you need to until they send you out another ticket - surely these are numbered or something so they can cancel the old ones? Actually, thinking about the events I've been to recently, maybe they are not numbered. .....

Hi..this sounds like the Royal Mail round where i live. By the sound of things the answer is yes your ticket has been pinched. Go back to the delivery office and demand to speak to the mannager and ask him to explain what has happend to your letter. Demand to see the signiture of who signed for it. If he can't tell you anything tell him you'll contact the police as it's still theft at the end of the day (they arrested a gang of post office workers from a london sorting office who had stolen over 250,000 worth of Giro's etc last year) You said you've spoke to the Royal Mail and made a complaint. Make sure you make a note of the case number as they are **** at retreaving notes if you have to ring them again and don't have the case number. Contact *********.co.uk (08456 013265) as well as they'll give you some real good advice and can start an invetigation for you. I feel really sorry for you Chris as this is gonna go on and on. The Royal Mail are really crap at the moment. Just keep on at them and at the sorting office mannager. Also get the ticket seller to report the letter missing as you can claim some of the money back as it was sent recorded. It doesn't matter if nothing has been sent back to them. The fact that no one has signed for it and that you can't track it means it is lost/pinched and therefore a claim can be made.
Oh....the *************.co.uk should have been post watch. And polotoo just so you know, the Royal Mail are very bad at getting things signed for. My postman used to sign for my stuff himself!!!!

Wow, some very encouraging advice there! I will try the ticket sellers one more time, and if they still have not received my returned tickets I will go to the Royal Mail office and will not move until someone can give me an answer.
