About ten minutes ago my 5 year old Sharp TV had a v strange turn. It turned itself off then on again and now its stuck on the channel we were watching. No volume channel control, nothing, not even on the set itself. Does anyone know what might be wrong? Is it affordably fixable? I hate the Bill! lol

Try switching it off at the socket and leave it for 5 minutes or so before switching it back on again. That works for my Sky digibox when it 'freezes'.
I had a similar turn with my TV a few months ago - it kept turning itself off then back on again. I don't know why or how to fix it as it rectified itself for no reason! - all i can suggest is perhaps dust in the circuits. If you feel confident try giving it a careful "once over" with a vacuum cleaner hose (or pay the tv man to do this)
Be careful with turning it on and off repeatedly - power supplies don't like it too much and could go pop!
My TV did that just before christmas, as a prelude to dying completely. But it gave me an excuse to go out and get a flashy new widescreen set, which is great and well worth the money.
Oh, one little thing BTW... when my telly did that, it was OK if you watched the AV channel, but got stuck if you switched to viewing through the aerial. So an aerial-to-scart adpator cable might help you to squeeze a few months extra life out of it.
