We are trying to send a text to the US from our mobiles here. Howver, we cant appear to be able to. What are we doing wrong and can anyone give an example of a US mobile because the number has been sent to us from a relative in South Africa who may well have sent it as it appears to her, if you see what I mean, with the SA prefix and not the UK.

If the number you were given is the correct number from South Africa, then it should begin with 09-1- followed by the US phone number.

09 is the international access code used by the South African phone service and 1 is the dialling code for the USA.

International dialling codes (i.e. the 1 in the number) are the same throughout the world but the access code (i.e. the number you have to dial to get into the international system) varies from country to country. In the UK (and throughout most of Europe, it's 00.

So, instead of 09-1-, you need to prefix the US phone number with 00-1-.

Chris

to text my sister in america i have to drop the 00 bit and put a + in, so for instance to text her number in florida i put in a number similar (but changed a little) to this :- +14074465689

also you would have to make sure both phones are triband/quad band phones

i forgot to say in the example above, if i wanted to ring her phone from the uk i would put in

0014074465689

so to make it clear, from the uk i drop the 00 and put in a plus symbol(+)

The + symbol is just a short cut to dialling 00 - it shouldn't really matter which you use.
really? when i use 00 it dosent work at all! how strange!
plus not all us mobile phone networks accept text
