As far as I'm aware. Lots of long wires are stacked side by side. They are then sprayed with lacquer. This holds them together. (Apparently brown gummed paper held them together many years ago). The wires are cut into strips and these strips are then machine bent over a U shaped mould forming the staples.
Motrartube ... they still use brown gummed paper to stick together some makes of nail-gun nails
There is a tribe in the remotest part of Africa that eat small U shaped bent wires........It is said to be their Staple Diet.......ha...ha...ha....lol
