we have reported this to the police and they said it isnt an emergency, and not to call again! The police dont want to know so it looks like we are going to have to take the matter into our own hands

You must insist the police take action and ask to have your complaint officially recorded, if you take your own action you risk prosecution yourself

Make an appointment to see the Police Inspector or Superintendent and tell them your concerns. If they still do not want to know then threaten them with your MP or local newspaper. That'll do the trick.

Oh, and another thing - tell the police that you want it in writing that you are not to call them and that they are not prepared to go any further with the investigation. That'll bring on the pains for them. I used to work for the police and know a bit about their ways of working.

If they can't do any through lack of evidence, then they should explain this to you and offer to put an alarm mat in your house in case anyone tries to get in. They are not being helpful, but don't take the matter into your own hands, because the police will then be VERY interested in that and may arrest YOU.

do what the good people above have said and if you get no further joy you'll have to consider other options. Assess how serious this threat is. Lots of no hope muppets make random threats they never would or could carry out. If you consider that they are likely to try you have several options, none of them legal or pleasant so you may end up in more trouble than you are in now. I don't know how you have aggrieved them so can't really comment further, but most people who threaten are no danger at all, it's the ones that don't you have to worry about. Go to the police and be more insistant, as if you have to ask on here you're really not up to dealing with anyone serious.

When you say you rang the police and they said not to call again, had you rung 999? If so then they were possibly correct in that it wasn't an emergency at that moment, I don't imagine that they meant you should not contact your local police station, their number is in the phone book under Police. If that isn't the case then you have cause for complaint.
