Can anyone tell me what the code number is that appears alongside every address that comes through the post.It appears with every letterhead that is addressed.Even when addressed to my wife it has the same no. as me.

I wish it where that simple.This is only a five digit number i.e. 34567 and contains no letters.!
It's used by the Royal Mail to presort bulk mailings to a lesser degree of precision than post codes - don't know precisely but it probably equates to a town or similar area.

I think the organisation sending them out has to presort them on this system to obtain a discount postage rate.
