When I play some DVDs on my DVD player the dialogue is inaudible on the film but all the sound effects and music are fine. There is no problem with the sound on the extras. When I play the same DVDs on my computer, there is no problem. Can anybody explain what's wrong and how I put it right?

Do you have a surround sound setup, with a central speaker perhaps under or above your TV? If so, check that that particular speaker's volume is turned up -- with a 5.1 setup the middle speaker is typically used for dialog, and the rest for sound effects etc.
It could be something as simple as a loose scart cable, check both ends.

Thanks for your help. It was as In a Pickle said - I had to go to the base set up and select 2CH for the audio output.
