The only way I know of capturing a screen image is to press prt scrn once. From there, exit (or minimise) what is on there, and open Paint in windows accessories. Once there, select paste, and this will insert what you have captured. Save it, and then carry on with whatever.
Ps, forgot to add, if you are say watching something in media player, just pause it, and then let it return to full screen BEFORE you press prt scrn.

Dosset, on seeing your post, I thought I'd better double check. It still works for me.
Try this software site, it has many programs for this function -http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Multimedia_ and_Graphics/Screen_Capture_Tools/Screen_Grab_ Pro.html

Otherwise search on ''screen grab'' you will find lots of stuff for it.
Or how about this little gem? Virtually identical to WMP but without the codec problems.

It can pause and take shots.

One sweet little program - and it's free.
Sorry - should've said it's called Media Player Classic.
Sometimes pressing "Print Screen" doesn't work and when you paste the contents of the clipboard into an image editor you see the movie still in action instead of one frame of it.

If that happens then use a media player that has a screen capture function built in : the only one I've used is Power DVD.
Failing that, open the movie file with TMPGEnc, click File > Preview and then take a screen grab of the preview screen.
