Elecric braes

My daughter age 9 needs some info on how and why electric braes produce the optical illusion they do! I'm stumped all I know is that they are great fun and it might be handy if anyone knew of any really good examples she could mention in her finished project.

Fear not Diane. If you do a Google search for " electric brae " you will find many fine examples of this strange phenomenom that your young daughter can use in her project. If you don't have enough information after you've googled then just post another question here and we'll see what we can dig up for you. Happy to help.
Diane - spooky but true - I was nine when I went along the one in Milngavie, it was wierd. Try a combination of these two sites, one has a diagram of how it works the other has some good pictures.

Diane - sorry forgot to mention there's definately more than one, I think there's one in NZ one in Ireland. There was a recent qu on here about them, but I can't find it. Perhaps one of the "experts" or AB Editor can locate it in the archive. I think the gist of how it works is that the hedges & fences get higher or lower [depending which way you're heading] while the road does the opposite. So when you are really going downhill you're going up & vice versa. Hope that helps ;+D))
