How to find an ex-directory telephone number?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Not legitimately - that's the whole point of being ex-directory - there's sometimes a security issue - say a police office/prison officer etc and it has to be infallable accross the board from the occupations above to the person not wanting crank calls - to the person who just doesnt want to be listed in a book with thousands of others.
192.com apparently has all the number that are ex directory, but you have to pay for it..
theres other services that do this aswell, I used to work in a company checking that people had recieved their phone book...people would often complain and ask how i got their number..
we used 192.com and another computer system, can't remember the name of it though
