Washing Machine stopped...Why?

Hi everyone. Sorry to be a pain, but why has my washing machine stopped? It was doing its normal cycle and approaching the end of it when it suddenly stopped. My wife and I had noticed that it viabrated quite violently, a lot more than normal just before stopping, (say the last 2-3 minutes before hand. Now I've briefly checked the following but haven't proceeded further due to my own lack of knowledge. So here goes:

- The plug socket still works (tested using a kettle).

- Changed fuse in plug, (to no avail).

- Checked for broken pipes leakages etc, (none).

- Had the part of the back off, (not the complete thing), but didn't notice any bad connections etc.(However further investigation could prove me wrong on this one).

You see, when I tried to turn on the machine,(after changing thr fuse), the power light did not come on. This leads me to believe that this is an electrical fault and not a mechanical one. So. With this in mind, what should I be looking for? Also, just another point...(sorry). Which is the best option following no success.....Get a professional to fix it or buy another. I've been told fixing can be expensive and buying being the cheaper of the two. Any help is always appreciated. Thanks for your time, bye for now.

Hmmm, put a different fuse in. It may have blown. make sure its the right ampage.

Oh yeah, and if you get someone round to fix it, they will just make some crap pu about it needing a replacement part and try to charge a fortune. your better off just buying another if it does need mending. Like anything, once something starts to go wrong, something else happens after that. you can get some good deals around at the moment. i think comet has one which is half price.

You changed the fuse, but did you check the wiring in the plug?, although i'd tend to think its a bit more serious than that, also, I think your right on the electrical side, unless someone else can come up with something, call in an expert,

I would presume the machine had gone 'off balance' and that the water needed to be drained out, and the washing redistributed before completing the cycle.

Before doing anything else,. change the fuse again. Just to make sure it isn't as simple as that.

same thing happened to ours. Other half was there when the engineer came, from what I remember it was something to do with a belt? Maybe? Anyway, it got 'fixed' but packed up permanently not long after, so we had to get a new one anyway. I'd buy a new one. And try to avoid over-filling it.

Get off your back sides and administer these useless answers, before this site turns into a free for all every Tom, Dick & Harry to input whatever rubbish that comes into their head.

In the hope of restoring a little bit of hope to an otherwise doom mongered forum question ...

If you want the advice of up to approx 4-5000 independent whitegoods engineers then go to www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk ... simple registration and then advice & help for free ... and if they believe it can be fixed then they will say so ... the person giving the advice probably be the guy who is closest to you so no woriies about being ripped off by someone just looking for a quick buck ! Give model & make & serial number where possible ... sometimes on a sticker inside door, or by filter flap towards the bottom of the front face ...

same thing happened to us last week. 1. select the spin cycle to remove any excess water from the pump. 2. remove the pump,clean and replace or 3. replace the brushes on the motor. hope this helps.

Hi EthanAlec, It might be worth checking that the filter isn't blocked - this is covered by a round cap which can be unscrewed which is normally located on the front of the machine at the bottom - sometimes under a flap. There is normally a drain pipe to allow you to drain any water left in the machine out into a bowl. If the filter gets blocked then it can stop the machine from pumping out the waste water prior to the spin cycle. On my machine you get an error code displayed when this occurs and the machine doesnt try to pump out the water - I was wondering if maybe yours did try to pump out when the filter was blocked and maybe as it couldn't it might be blowing the fuse. Youd be amazed at how much limescale/fluf and bits get trapped in there. Just a word of warning there may be a fair bit of water in there so make sure you unplug and move it away from anty extension sockets etc. Good Luck Jay
