News Group problem

I used to be with BT internet until I recently moved in with mypartner.
The new property already has broadband with TalkTalk (Horrible service), but now when I click my newsgroups in My newsreader (Thunderbird) it asks me for my username and password. I enter what I think is my username and password (Same as email details) and it comes up with a mesage saying "Connection to news.btinternet.com timed out"

I have cancelled my broadband with BT internet however my email still works and I can still download my emails to my computer over the TalkTalk broadband.

Please help as I use the newsgroups often. Is there another newsgroup news server I can use?
