Tracing a pay as you go?

I have recently been texting an old boyfriend who has no idea it is me as I have a new number. He said if I don't tell him who it is he has a friend who can trace the mobile and get the name and address. I am a little worried now as I text him as a bit of fun (no abuse or anything) for a joke! And don't want him to know it was me! Is it possible for someone to do this to a pay and go vodafone?

If they work at the right department for Vodafone and your phone is registered then yes.

I don't think his friend worked for Vodafone. What if i re registered my details under a different address?

Only if you registered the sim card to you at your address.

My car was stolen and my phone taken. The idiots phoned a friend to probabaly ask him if he fancied a ride in my nice BMW. So I had the number of that friend given to me by o2. The police couldn't do anything as it was TESCO pay as you go phone number and unless turned on, virtually untraceable.

You can subscribe to a tracing service, which triangulates your position but you would know about that as you have to text him back as an acknowledgement.

Unless he knows someone at Vodaphone and you registered it in your name at your address - then he's hoaxing. However it could be deemed as malicious - just be careful.

I will be thanks guys. I shouldn't have done it, he treated me pretty badly so thought i'd wind him up for a laugh! Only sent him funny stuff, but he's not got any sense of humour. I've just re registered my phone in a friends name as she said I could, will this be ok now?

Nice one casey hahaha! I did exactly this to a nasty ex bf of mine who i was with for a year and half...in the end i made him believe that his current gf was cheating on him whilst he thought she was at work and the usual how he was crap in bed etc etc...and the funniest thing he actually thought the person texting him (me) was his gfs ex bf! And he kept phoning up leaving answer phone messages saying "i dont care my d*cks bigger than yours karen said im her best" etc hahaha (this was about 2 years after id left him) and it made me laugh that he hadnt matured one bit since we broke up when he was 19 (and hes now 23)!!!

If I were you I would be very worried! The Russians got a Chechnyan leader by finding his position by his mobile phone, they then got one of their fighter aircraft to drop a bomb on him, perhaps your boyfriend could have connections with the Russians?
