Probably a daft question, but do speed cameras operate during the hours of darkness?

While on the subject of our strange 'laws' how can they arrest a 'youth' (I shall call him that or this q wouldn't get posted) trying to break into our house, while we were IN, (terrifying) arrest him with a set of our housekeys on him, (we had lost them earlier that day and didn't realise). After nearly a YEAR of the police holding the keys as 'evidence' the case was dropped - due to lack of evidence...... oh, and it was only after I phoned them for the millionth time to find out what the latest was. They didn't think it important enough to let us know we didn't have to go to court to give evidence, when we had been worried sick about doing so. Still, it was the courts fault, not the police.......apparently. Oh dear... Sorry about that, another little rant!!

Thank you Cetti & Einstein. I've been made to feel that 'these things happen, so get on with it' but I still have nightmares about watching a drunken/drugged up thug (he was a known criminal in our county) swearing and pushing the door because even though he knew the key would fit (we had dropped it in the garden) I had put the latch on.
