I own an epson 870 and its showing no ink levels, is greyed out. Althogh I know there is ink in the cartridge they are original epson inks, I have tried restarting the pc. Any one else had the same trouble and do you know how to sort it out.
I have an epson 740 and had a similar problem. The answer? in a fit of anger I tore off the yellow sticker on top of the cartridge, poked around a bit and hey presto! I have a fullish ink-well again? Printers will tell you you are out of ink when in reality there may be another 25% left inside the cartridge. Its a scam by the printers to make money!
no my problem is the software says there is a communication problem although everything is plugged in. and I know if you take out the cartridge and put it back in you get a lot more printouts, but with mine they atre now chipped.
Maybe you are using a computer powered USB hub. I tried this with an Epson 890 and under certain configurations this happened to me. I now use the hub for zip drives and card readers and plug the printer directly into the USB on the computer. I also tried an externally powered USB hub and did not get this problem.
Another thought; have you tried uninstalling the printer and then re-installing the drivers?
This symptom is usual if you access the printer across a network and you are not using an Administrator account (NT, 2000 etc.).
