If you stand at the top of Ingleborough on a clear day and look north west you get a nice view of Morcambe Bay
I think the reasoning is that the people who don't respond are "one-offers" and not regular ABers who understand AB etiquette, though i also assume you're question is more a statement, than a question?

I will generally rate answers but don't necessarily respond unless I have a further enquire (and them I may post anew). i always assumed that the users wouldn't really trawl through all the already answered questions looking for a thank you. Mind you if I hugely impressed I may actually go into print or of course, if I have said I will report back on results.
It's not so much a thankyou required, or applause or even a guffaw, Message received would do just fine. Just so you know you were read or you start to feel like its pointless even response in thread from someone, not the original poster maybe. Ah, who cares the more i type the more i think this is an insignificant issue.. Why do you reply? If you smile or nod at someone you recognise in the street and get blanked.. it's a bit like that i guess but life goes on, no big deal. :-)

I think that it is polite to respond and at least acknowledge people's answers. Some people go out of their way to search the net to give answers to people's questions, and that at least deserves a star. I appreciate that some people might not have access to a computer regularly, but why post a question if you wouldn't go back to read the answer? And if you go back to read the answer, then it takes 2 seconds to log on and award stars or post back.
