what is the name given to a crossbar in a horse's harness to which the ends of the side straps are attatched?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.I'd say it's more likely the single tree. The side straps are called traces... the single tree is then attached to a double tree which is attached to the machine being pulled.
