is there a way of setting my system up such that when i connect my ipod to my computer that itunes does not update the libraries. Having an imac with low memory I am unable to fill the 60gb ipod. I'd like to be able to adjust the settings so that the stuff in my itunes library gets added to the ipod but does not replace what is already there.

If you connect your iPod then run iTunes, you'll be able to tick the box (on your iPod's page) that says 'manually update iPod' or similar.
