how do you fix mountain bike gears, a bike that i have bought, the gears slip and it doesnt go onto the low gear. just a lot of noise and keeps slipping. cheers

It is probably best to take a look at websites like Park Tools' (http://www.parktool.com/repair/byregion.asp?ca tid=53&imageField2.x=15&imageField2.y=3) because it can be quite involved. They have lots of instructions on how to fix these things.
Assuming the bike uses a d�railleur gear-change mechanism, you probably need to adjust the low gear limit stop screw...

if it has 3 cogs at the front, get the chain on the middle cog and then work the rear gears and adjust the cable 1 way or the other, it sounds as though your cable has streached which is a comon fault, so unscrew the cable adjusters until you get low gear,then try all the others you may have to adjust it back slightly
