Helicopter altitude,, (cont)

Following on from that cracking answer, now to the heart of the discussion we were having in work. If the record for a helicopter altitude is 40,820ft, and allowing for the fact that not all flights actually push this envelope - and Everest is 29,029ft - allowing for weather etc ,,,, can you actually get a helicopter to the top of Everest?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Yes...as Gef says it's done on a regular basis...Altitude isn't a problem for choppers any more than small aeroplanes....the real problem for designers lies in speed....to go faster in a heli you need thinner profile blades but this reduces the unique ability of the craft to hover as it causes instability.
