Is there a reason why motorway signs cannot be in the middle of the road (i.e, where the central reservation is)? On the M6 last week and also on the M5 I missed turn offs by missing the signs because lorries were blocking my view.
How wide is the sort of sign you were looking for, about 10-12 feet normally now imagine that in the middle and you have 2-3 feet sticking into the road. Along come a Lorry and bang.
the overhanging types are a) more expensive to fit b) not as easy to maintain (i.e. change the light bulb!). I agree they could put the buggers higher so you could see them over the lorries....
lorries should be made to stick to the fast lane and then there would be no hindrance to other driver's vision. as the "fast" lane is so loosely named anyway with all traffic crawling at a mediocre 45 miles an hour most of the time, this should have no adverse effects at all. simple.
