If you have a name, you can go directly into the registrar's office and they will check their records, they might do this for free or they may charge a few pounds (it was �6 for a copy of the marriage cert when i did it but that was some time ago) if they can't find it they will be able to point you in the direction of the nearest government records office for the area. If you don't live locally, try getting their number on yell.com and give them a call, they do that sort of thing all the time so it shouldn't be a problem. Try and have as much information as possible (dates etc).
