How can you prevent the magnetic strip on a credit card, atm card, etc. from becoming demagnetized?

Just don't get it too near any magnets.
Don't let the magnetic strips move across each other. Keep cards front to back when stacking.
Keep them away from loud speakers,most people forget there is a strong magnet in every speaker, also, these new shake n charge torches have a magnet in, keep your wallet/purse away from them if you keep one in the glove box of your car.
Take 6 sqr metres of of fine wire mesh.
Fold into cube shape
Suspend wallet in centre using bungees
Fit small wheel at each corner of base
attach dog lead to centre of front (for towing purposes)
at the bottom middle of the back, attach one of those conductive rubber earthing thingies that you see on some cars.
