The "RW" bit means its a DVD WRITER (as well as being able to READ DVDs)

the + and - bit means it works with both + (plus) DVDs and -(minus) DVDs.

The Double (Dual) Layer bit means it is able to create (and read) DVDs that have been created with the Double (Dual) layer technology.

Dual layer allows you to get more data on a DVD, but not all devices can READ a DVD created that way.
