Moon rights

I see various ads selling 'an acre of moon space'. Who owns the initial rights to the moon space? Who decided it is theirs? Will it be worth something more one day? I found a guy on ebay trying to sell the Sirius Solar system the other day. Has the world gone mad?

I bought an acre of moon land for my partner for christmas -year b4 last. I suppose its a novelty thing more than anything really. Although whoever thought of this idea is very rich as you buy stars and acres on most of the other planets now too. We do own a deed for 'our' acre of moon. So I suppose if ever we need to move there in the far future we have a guaranteed spot ; )

I THINK the way it works is that you prove no one owns it in the first place. When I bought our moon acre we were sent a load of documents explaining what rights we did or did not have on our acre. Such as; if any one is to find any sort of minerals on our 'land' we do not have rights to those minerals. And that we cannot build on the surface of the moon - because it would damage the apearance. The guy who owns the company that sold me my moon acre actually 'owns' the whole solar system as far as im aware. Abfandango - I was on ebay a few days ago and someone was selling an imaginary friend!, and I have found clouds for sale too.

On the subject of Domain Names, nobody actually owns them you just pay a registration (admin) fee to the W3C or relevant governing body who run the whole show. They are a sort of non-profit making body who handle the allocation of domain names. Some companies buy names wholesale and then sell them on or others just handle the registration for you.
