It's a trick. Reminds me of the one David Blain dors with the playing card thrown through a windscreen.

The only trick David Blain ever managed was to convince the media that he's any good. The man has had a severe personality bypass.

As a semi-pro magician (I have a day job too) - I know of at least two ways to do it.
You are not going to thank me but I am not going to tell you, it is fairly easy to do - but you will be dissapointed if you knew how it was done - just enjoy the effect for what it is - a good trick.

Seeing as most of this is quite old hat now - and not hard to find out - the secrets of several TV "street magic" effects are on here. With all of these effects there are other (usually better) ways of doing it - but this is a good starting point
