mobile usb cable
12 Answers
my son has recently been given a Sony Ericsson (k310i)
mobile phone for his birthday. Today he bought himself a compatable usb cable (costing 10) in order to download from the internet. However my computer wont recognise the phone. A friend has said that he has had the same problem in the past.
Any ideas on how to overcome this as my son is now 10 out of pocket (the shop wont refund as there is nothing wrong with the cable) and he cant download anything. He is 11yrs old so you can imagine what a disapointment that is to him.
Any help would be very much appriciated...thanks

What version of Windows are you running.
Is the phone switched on ?
Check the Phone documentation to make sure there is not a setting he needs to turn on to make connectivity work.

My son had exactly the same problem. I gave up, but he managed it eventually on the SonyEricsson website.
Apparently he went through accessories, connectivity, connectors and found the cable. There was some sort of software to download.
Don't give up, but enlist the help of a computer savvy geek if you know one!

Panic..how come the kids ALWAYS know more about technology than the adults that are supposed to be teaching them? I will try the website and see if it can be done that way.
Mark...unfortuanatly he hasnt got blue tooth (his mum bought it him and didnt have a clue about blue tooth, which would have been better). We took the phone with us to the shop and explained exactly what we wanted it for...downloading from the net. If, after trying the suggestions given, we dont get any joy then maybe they will have to refund the money as it isnt doing what its supposed to do.
Thanks for your help...

The CD that came with it did not install software. It was just info and links I believe.
At first we tried taking patches to make the software that we believed the disc had installed work, but he believes he had to download the entire software for it. There is then a SonyEricsson desktop icon to link to a whole load of gubbins, and a wizard that starts up automatically to set up your preferences.
I have even tried deleting the icon on my identity but it won't go away. It is more than a shortcut.
