Problems with my shower..
6 Answers
We had a shower instlled about 6 years ago, electric that works off the cold feed. It worked fine until we had the builders in and although they didn't do anything directly ever since it runs for a couple of minutes (about 3) then trips the fuseboard. We had a new ktichen and boiler installed, and I have checked the stopcock flow which is open as much as it can be. They also took out the tank in the loft and immersion heater. They are denying all responsibilty, and although I am not certain it is too much of a coincidence that it stopped working as soon as they finished working!! Any suggestions?

Your shower should be on a completely seperate fuse/breaker. If it's tripping and it is still on it's own then more than likely something wrong with the shower itself than anything they've done. Have they changed the boiler to a combi boiler ? If so there may not be enough pressure to run the shower now - but you could do firstly with a sparky to have a look how it's wired, trace the wire back to teh fuse board and see if they have tapped off it somewhere.
strangely enough jig, mine is doing exactly the same thing.!
My shower stopped heating up so the landlord came around and put in a new something, anyway it works but like you said only for two or three minutes, which is particularly annoying when your washing your hair or shaving your bits!
Anyway my downstairs lights blew its fuse and since then the shower has worked properly, but then i put a new fuse in and low and behold the shower kept tripping its switch again.
The end result is im clean but sitting in complete darkness!!

Hi Jib Showers are very susceptible to any debris////fluxes left in the system maybe some has got into it from the refurb you may be able to clean the filter if there is one.
As for over loading the fused (MCB) with other appliances just turn shower mcb off and see if any thing else is affected it should only control the shower.
tattoo probably has the same problem as you have HTH Tez

It sounds like there may have been some vibration that has disturbed the inside of the shower and it is now leaking.
After the 3 minutes the leak may have seeped as far as the electrical connections.
For safetys sake I would contact an electrician to check the problem, if the RCD/ELCB trip in the fusebox fails, you have a potentialy lethal fault.
