Anyone seen double 400 or 500watt light-switch dimmers?All I could find in B&Q were 2x250watt or single 400watt dimmers.....I ended up buying 2 separate 400w switches.
Am I also going to get away with a 500w load on one 400w dimmer? Or should I change some of the spots to a lower wattage? Sorry about the multiple questions here.....
An electrical wholesaler would be the one to ask about a double 400w - 500w dimmer or Raysparx who is on here most days
- and no, you are not going to get away with overloading a 400w with a load of 500w it will only overheat/melt - reduce the bulb wattage to suit.
400W is about the maximum for a single domestic dimmer. The only way I know of of making up a double 400W as to use a module like the MK Logic Plus range - this sort of thing, in a 4way front plate.
Be aware that if you are dimming low voltage spots (the 12V halogen types) you need a special dimmer anyway. http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/MKK4500.h tml
Thanks guys -I meant to add that they are 240v
-Just to compound the original question....assuming I reduce the load wattage -which I will! I have since realised that there are TWO existing sw's -eg two-way switching.....Can I use a dimmer substitute replacement at one of these switches ??? (And does it matter which one is replaced?)
